3 charged in connection to burning body found in April

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Three people have been charged in connection to the death of a man found burning in Jackson April 11.

Tuesday, officers arrested Marcus Shelby and charged him with capital murder and arson in the death of Duan Penn, according to Jackson police.

Penn’s body was discovered bound and on fire in a grassy area off Forest Avenue Extension near Methodist Home Road in Jackson.

Friday, investigators arrested Janice Pittman and charged her with capital murder.

Another man, Raymond Jackson, has been charged with arson.

Precinct Four's Watts Leaving JPD

Jackson Police Precinct 4 Commander Wendall Watts is making a transition. On the job here since October 2010, Watts will take the position as chief of security for Central Mississippi Medical Center. Watts said by phone today that his other new position will be that of head of the Hinds County Sherrif's Office Reserve Unit.

JPD adds two new beats to Precinct 4

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Jackson Police Department has added two beats to Precint 4.

The announcement was made at a community meeting in Fondren Monday, according to an announcement from the City of Jackson.

Precint 4 previously had eight beats.

Jackson couple charged with sexual battery

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Jackson married couple has been arrested and charged with sexual battery of a minor.

Attorney General Jim Hood announced Wednesday, Jan and William Webb of Jackson were indicted by the Hinds County Grand Jury Monday.

Jan Webb, 42, is charged with sexual battery by a person in a position of trust against a family member under the age of 18.

Gun toting homeowner reportedly chases fleeing burglar

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Northeast Jackson woman credits her dog with alerting her to a crime unfolding in the middle of the night at her neighbor's home.

A burglar was reportedly shot by the homeowner who chased the suspect at gunpoint.

The ferocious barks from Adrianne Lucke's golden retriever mix awakened her early Tuesday morning, alerting her to a frightening scene unfolding at her neighbor's Sunnyvale Drive home.

"I've never heard him bark like that before, so I got my little gun out," said Lucke.
