3 charged in connection to burning body found in April

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Three people have been charged in connection to the death of a man found burning in Jackson April 11.

Tuesday, officers arrested Marcus Shelby and charged him with capital murder and arson in the death of Duan Penn, according to Jackson police.

Penn’s body was discovered bound and on fire in a grassy area off Forest Avenue Extension near Methodist Home Road in Jackson.

Friday, investigators arrested Janice Pittman and charged her with capital murder.

Another man, Raymond Jackson, has been charged with arson.

Teen allegedly stabbed by his mother's boyfriend

JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- A teen is stabbed in Jackson Friday evening, allegedly by his mother's boyfriend.

It happened about 7:45 p.m. at Advantages Apartments on McWillie Circle.

JPD Spokesperson Colendula Green says the 16 year-old victim and his mother's unidentified boyfriend got into an altercation.

That's when the teen was stabbed.

The young man was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment.

The suspect fled the scene but is expected to be charged in connection with the incident.

'Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites' coming soon to MCM

The Mississippi Children's Museum will soon welcome its first traveling exhibit -- "Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites".

The exhibit features famous characters and iconic scene taken right out of the pages of seven celebrated children's books: "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", "The Snowy Day", "Abuela", "Tuesday", and "Where’s Spot?".

Storyland's grand opening is Saturday, May 19. It will run through Aug. 26.

5th annual Red, White & Jackson set for June 28

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce has set the date for the 5th annual Red, White & Jackson.

The event will be held Thursday, June 28 in Downtown Jackson.

Red, White & Jackson will begin with free food, beverages and live entertainment from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Smith Park in Downtown Jackson.

Casey Family Programs was introduced as the newest member of an alliance to creating a safe and healthy environment for vulnerable families and children.

Body found at Jackson car wash

Jackson Police say a man found dead at a Jackson car wash Thursday morning died of natural causes.

The body of a 50-year-old black male was found around 11 a.m. at the Checkered Flag Car Wash on Northside Drive, near Bailey Avenue.

Investigators know who he is but have not released his identity.
