Monday Jackson Ward 2 Councilman Chokwe Lumumba officially announced he is running for Jackson mayor in 2013.

Lumumba said Monday he wants to be the people's mayor and will make jobs and economic growth a priority.

Michael to run for Ward 3 seat

Harrison Michael, a Peeples Middle School teacher and head football coach, has announced his candidacy for the Ward 3 on the Jackson City Council

“There needs to be a catalyst for economic development and a person to provide fair and equal representation to all 15 precincts,” Michael said in a statement.

A special election is set for Feb. 25.

Chapman announces candidacy for Ward 3

Gwendolyn Ward Osborne Chapman has announced her candidacy for the Ward 3 seat on the Jackson City Council.

Jackson is a teacher in the Jackson Public School District.

She is a member of Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Minority/woman-owned and operated Business Enterprise, National Association of Professional Women, NAACP, and the Notary Public Commission.

“ForWard ToWard a Better Community” is Chapman’s campaign slogan.

A special election is set for Feb. 25.
